This video discusses information collected by the Drug Awareness Warning Network; DAWN.

DAWN is part of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration with the Department of Health and Human Services of the United States Government.

One thing that DAWN keeps track of is emergency room visits and suicides connected to drug and medication use.

I think you will find it shocking just how many people attempt or actually successfully complete suicide while taking psychiatric drugs. DAWN even breaks down the number of suicide related to specific categories of medications such as SSRIs, antidepressants, antipsychotics, anxiety medications, stimulants, etc.

We normally think that drugs like Prozac, Zoloft, Paxil, Luvox, Celexa, Lexapro, Effexor or Wellbutrin as preventing suicide. Is this the case?

We're kinda in the same boat... I'm 22 and my life is a mess, definitely nothing like? the life of an average person my age. The thing which keeps me going is the realisation that I have many years to make things right. There is no rush. If you don't give up, maybe things will work out and you'll be happier than you could ever have imagined. I want my life to have had a purpose, so I will at least wait until the opportunity arises eg. saving someones life.

Nope, suicide is ...
Nope, suicide is the result of the failures of society. Sure, there are people who simply dont have the ability to properly integreate or meet the status quo. but there are also an overwhelming? number of artists and writers and poets and musicians and basically everyone whose role it is to give emotional meaning to the human race who kill themselves. This is demonstrative of some serious problems with the emotional state of our society..

@Trentambersmith Not at all! I never said such a thing. What I'm saying is that your frame of mind and emotional state tend to influence your actions. Sometimes, those two things are set to such a way that your mind is driven to hurt oneself instead? of looking for mental health, which would eventually be the best option.

There is no way unless you were never liked to begin with. I think if you tryed to make them hate you it could make it worse as they? would be sad about losing you and having guilt for arguing or ignoring with you. Honestly you should talk to someone about how you feel. Also No matter what your family will be affected Weather it be bad or good the effect is still there. I only think about men? No, I only think about proportional focus of an issue, to the degree in which it effects an individual or group of people. Focusing mainly on suicide for women when more men are killing themselves is like focusing more on breast cancer for men when mainly women have most breast cancer. Your justifications are backward rationalizations for the greater focus on womens suicide when men are the ones killing themselves most.? To YOU, this is competition. To me its disproportional focus. You focus on more women being depressed, I focus on more men killing themselves yet women are getting most of the help/attention (like the vid) for suicide. No, more women are not depressed than men. Men HIDE symptoms more, it shows up (in incomplete stats) as more women are depressed.

it's not backwards, and I'm not saying that women are more depressed. I'm saying that there are more women that are depressed. You are seeing this as a competition but pain is pain whether you male or female. It is easier to detect with women because when are? naturally more emotional thats just a fact. when you go to a sad movie you rarely see men cry but women are crying; not for attention but because women are more sensitive and emotional. What are you so mad at?

Dont make backward rationalizations to justify women getting more attention on the suicide issue while men are the ones committing more suicides. Women are not MORE depressed then men, men are more likely to hide any? sign of sadness and told by men AND women to "man up" or "be a man" when they even complain about anything that may make them suicidal, women are encouraged to show emotion and they get more attention for it in comparison. Its YOU that needs to look at it differently.

I think you should look at it differently.? There is more to it. the ratio is in fact greater for men, but there is a lot more depressed women. just the need for attention is a reason to get help. Everybody has their reason and all pain hurts. no offense but who are you to say that one persons pain isn't as important or hurts as much as someone elses

I'm not sure if you're joking, being sarcastic, or mean this. But, if you mean this, I understand how you feel. I'm 19. And my life is just so f**ked up. I'm finishing my last year of school now by doing homeschooling cause? public school f**ked me up so bad. And, it seems like whatever good I try to do, I don't see no point in my life. I cannot take care of myself, so once my mom dies, I'm probably going right behind her. Maybe sooner. I give up on life.

I agree with you; people should generally be taken seriously if they threaten to kill themselves, it should atleast be investigated. Some people are just gonna die though. I'm one of them, I know that some people are just gonna die because I'm pretty? sure I'm going to do it (commit suicide) myself.

Unless you experienced feeling like that then don't talk. i know someone who died because someone rushed them into it. Infact it was a person like you who called them scared and challenged them.
